You know that feeling when you buy something with the best intentions, only to watch it slowly fade into the background of your home? That was me with the Ikea LATT table I got for my son. It didn’t take long for the table to become completely invisible to him – Bland, pale, and tucked into the corner of our living room, it was practically begging for some love.
I’ve always been fascinated by “Ikea Hacking,” though I never actually tried it myself. But the LATT seemed like the perfect candidate for my first project. It’s simple enough for a beginner and there’s no shortage of inspiration for ways to revamp it. I decided to go bold—turning it into a hybrid chalkboard-table combo for both drawing and playing.
If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m all about yellow—bright, bold, and unapologetically cheerful. It’s one of those colors that just speaks to me, and I wasn’t going to shy away from it here. So, armed with acrylic paint and a vision, I dove into the project.
Ikea LATT Table Hack – The Process
Of course, what looked like a quick, fun DIY turned into an epic saga of layers. Four coats of paint, to be exact. If you’ve ever painted furniture, you know that moment when you think you’re done, only to realize that no, you definitely need another coat. But I pushed through, determined to bring this table back to life.
For the chalkboard section, I decided to try my hand at making my own chalkboard paint. Sounds easy, right? Let’s just say it was a learning experience. I’ll be writing a separate post all about that process soon because it’s worth knowing the tricks before you dive in.
Ikea LATT Table DIY – The Final Look
The result? A table that went from invisible to exciting.
It’s bright, functional, and something my son actually wants to use now!
And from another angle. Ikea hack success!
